Apple announced today that they’re dropping the price on the 1GB iPod Shuffle to $49 and they’re adding a 2GB model for $69 (available soon). In a move that surprised many technology insiders, Apple has released new and upgraded versions of two products today: the iPhone (in my previous report) and the iPod Touch.
The iPod Touch gets a new 32GB version to go along with the 8GB and 16GB models. From the Apple press release (edited for only the iPod Touch information):
Apple today added new models of the iPhone and iPod Touch which have double the memory, doubling the amount of music, photos and videos that customers can carry with them wherever they go. iPod touch now comes in a 32GB model for $499, joining the 16GB model for $399 and the 8GB model for $299.

Apple has updated both its MacBook and MacBook Pro laptops but fashionista fans expecting some slinkier looks a la the new MacBook Air will be sorely disappointed. Unusually, Apples gone for the its whats on the inside that really counts approach, with a raft of speedy new Intel Core2Duo processors ranging from 2.4GHz to 2.6GHz, bigger hard disk drives (HDDs), up to 4GB of memory and more powerful graphics chips from nVidia. In a surprising move, Apple has eliminated the Xserve RAID from their product line. On their website, the Xserve RAID page has disappeared and now takes you to a new page where they offer the Promise VTrak E-Class RAID in its place. From the new Apple webpage :

Ockham Research submits: Apple Inc. has enjoyed being a cornerstone of the bull market of recent history. Between July 2006 and the end of 2007, AAPL shares experienced dramatic and impressive price appreciation from about $50 to nearly $200. However, as is true of the market in general, 2008 has not been kind to Apple. At present, Apple is trading just above $130, an almost 35% drop in just over 3 weeks. This selloff has brought Apple shares back into an attractive enough level that it is now on Ockhams buy list.
